COP2 PRACTICAL- Visual Typography Research (idea 3)


Typographical Research -

The aim of these poster is to be only typographical based, the aim is to attract attention of the target audience just via type design/style and the innuendo content, th type need to reflect no sexual themes tallow the language and content to give the work content. The campaign also needs to fit with the clients tone of voice, it need to reflect their brand effectively, so portray - lighthearted, humorous, casual style to relate to the brands ideologies.The aim of this campaign is to advertise condoms using sexual language and content in appropriately way using type, create a campaign that doesn't offend or off put the audience. The basis is it need to appeal to the audience using sexual reference with come from the text but need to visually stand out to the audience using the type design. 

Hand Drawn Type -

Research into existing client campaign highlighted that most of their poster adverts include links to fear (pregnancy or stis), this fits with the essay discussion but this is being avoid for this brief as this reflect a different advertising technique, in-replacement brief need to reflect bighearted, casual and funny . The client has used illustration or cartoon styles in past posters/adverts to express these themes in a more lighthearted, playful manner, therefore this could be a style used for the campaign. 

Also the adverts currently aims primary at males as this is brands target audience but this brief aims to open this up, create a campaign that promotes condoms and Durex to women or both genders equally, this is as Durex want to make sure they don't discriminate against any audience.  

This style of type could be suitable for this brief as it give a more personal style to the context, this would make it seem kinder and lighthearted rather that instructional.  These contemporary typographical poster that express positive themes, hence set a positive tone to the context fitting with the tone of voice set by the client.

As the brand do currently advertise to males, Antony Burril's style of typography is a more manly due to the harsher less decorative nature.  This style of typography grabs demands the audience attention, whilst also giving the impression of reflect danger which relates to durex current advertising style.This style of type could be effective for this client and brief as it would express the type in the least sexual way, this style of type has no sexual implication of relations therefore it would allow the context exclusively to express the content, allowing the language to be the singular sexual influence.

 Current Trend Research/Patches 

One of the visual style influence was iron on/stew on patch design, this is as iron graphic type patches are a popular current trend use by many different brands like Zara Topshop ect who target the intended market of this campaign audeince. Patches are a popular current trend, as the target audience will be very social aware using influences from current trends will allow the campaign to be tailored and appeal to their market more directly.

Katie Prior


Katie Prior is a illustrative artist who create poster advertising work, gigs, clubs, event night etc which are aimed primarily at the same market as this outcome. The style has been selected and used by location that would be a primary distribution channel for the work, this shows how the channel feel this style work effetely and would be welcome to promoting work of this style in their area. The style uses simple pastel colour palettes and bold curved forms in hand rendered personal style which appeals to both gender equally. This quirky style influence will allow the to target the intended market whilst setting a welcoming, kind, personal soft tone to the posters.

Also have done a large amount of work in this sty;e  for the shop urban outfitter which is the trendy current style of store the audience will shop at.
